What Is Mania?
Mania, as a mental illness, causes extremely high energy or irritable moods. It can vary from in intensity from what is known as “hypomania” (a lowered state of mania that does little to impact daily functioning) to full-blown mania, which can often cause psychotic episodes and hallucinations (seeing and/or hearing things that aren’t there). Mania is most often associated with the “activated” phase of bipolar disorder.
