This is something I wrote some time ago as our family and my son struggled with his mental illness. My son is now 34 years old and is doing very well. He is living independently, has been clean and sober for 14 years; and, he is a wonderful man. I am very proud of him.

FEAR (MI at Home), by Eldon Luce
In my fears,
I face this day as if it were a freight train
bearing down on me with full speed.
To which,
its collision
the other shoe falling in the eternities,
is but an echo.
At other times,
in my heart, when stout
I see the stroke of a feather
somewhere far beyond where the tracks
curve over the horizon
having infinitely greater impact
than all these rumbling powers
that shake me from my sleep
to meet the fears of another day.
